This was my first shoot with photo editor Lizzy Oppenheimer of Marie Claire.  I was asked to illustrate the power of giving and the good it does for those less fortunate. Lizzy suggested we think about the Sistine Chapel…we used the “Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo as the inspiration.

These sweaty beauty images shot for Avon illustrate that you can workout with makeup on… as long as it is water proof makeup.

Bubble Gum

December 8, 2011

About 10 years ago I did a beauty shoot with Patrycja Korzeniak that used actual candy to create makeup… it was a very successful personal project that garnered me many projects involving the use candy in beauty shoots (I now have to find them and post them for everyone to see). Anyway, this is one of the many (albeit more recent) that came after that personal project. This was shot with the exuberant and beautiful model Glenna Neece.

While looking through the archives I stumbled upon a beauty story I shot with model / now photographer Nicole Maddox. She is a beautiful model and now an accomplished photographer. Congrats on your success Nicole.

This shoot was shot entirely with Kino Flo continuos tone lighting.  Kino Flo’s are used mainly in the movie industry so it was nice to use a different tool than the usual HMI’s or Strobe lighting.

Makeup Artist Keiko Morisaki did a beautiful job as always.

Juan Valdez Campaign

October 19, 2011

I was asked by the advertising agency J. Walter Thompson to create a series of images that embody the spirt of the columbian people and show their coffee bean as a luxurious accessory. This campaign was for the coffee giant Juan Valdez.

The casting for this project was more complicated than most as each of the subjects chosen for the campaign had to be Columbian. We were also asked to design and created the jewelry the subjects would be wearing due to the copyright laws.

Thank you to Chris, Nona and Priscilla for their South American culture and beauty. Thank you to Linda Hilfiker of LH Production for casting and production of this project. It was yet another reason why I say, “photography is a reason to meet the people we meet.”

Color Spectrum

August 10, 2011

This beauty story depicts different harmonies within the color spectrum by changing the lip and eye makeup. Los Angeles based model, Vanessa Fitzgerald, who was discovered by David LaChapelle, understood the patience it takes to make a great beauty shoot. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the shoot, including Patrick Tumey for his talented work with the makeup.

I shot a mens beauty story of Andrew Jenks from MTV’s show “World of Jenks”
Andrew is the coolest cat I’ve shot in a while. He was totally down to earth, into the process of making a great image and never complained once while my assistants were splashing water on his face.

James Spader wrote me once; “To find comfort amongst strangers is a surprise and life’s great pleasure…” Perfect words to describe my shoot with Andrew. I would work with Andrew again anytime, anywhere…

This shoot was also an opportunity to work with the easy and cool english team of Creative Director Andy Turnbull and Photo Director Jo Miller. A special thank you Thomas Payne for his diligence in producing this shoot… you were all amazing in every way, thanks for trusting me…

Oh almost forgot, the shoot was at Antoine Verglas Studio where he has the sexiest bathroom ever. Thanks again Antoine!
